Two occurrences in the same neighborhood really point out the difference between reactions of members of the two different parties.
Vice-President Elect Mike Pence has moved into a short-term rental house in the mostly democratic Chevy Chase neighborhood of DC. When residents realized he was living there, the reaction was this, courtesy of the Washington Post:

They put out rainbow flags.
The other occurrence took place at a restaurant in the same neighborhood, a pizza place called the Comet Ping Pong. As written up in the Washington Post,
A North Carolina man was arrested Sunday after he walked into a popular pizza restaurant in Northwest Washington carrying an assault rifle and fired one or more shots, D.C. police said. The man told police he had come to the restaurant to “self-investigate” a false election-related conspiracy theory involving Hillary Clinton that spread online during her presidential campaign.
This restaurant was the subject of false news accusations that Hillary Clinton was running a child sex ring from the restaurant’s bathrooms. (Who the hell believes such stupidity?) Other than General Mike Flynn, soon to be Donald Trump’s National Security Adviser:
Nevertheless, the gunman was arrested, several area businesses went on lock-down.
A D.C. police report made public Monday says Welch had been armed with an AR-15 assault-style rifle. The report also says police seized a Colt .38 caliber handgun and a shotgun. One of those weapons was found inside the restaurant; the other in the suspect’s car.
Please wake me in 2020.
The town must look beautiful with all those rainbows…good for them! I was thinking of draping my house in black for the next 4 years.

I think the gay pride flags are a cool way to send a message.

It’s a cute passive aggressive protest, but I suspect Mike Pence will be the one laughing all the way to the White House…

I don’t blame the whole state. After all, they chose correctly for governor!

Finally! And you know Pat used to be our mayor and seemed to know what he was doing. He morphed into a different person as governor. Anyway hallelujah. He’ll be gone soon. Or actually back here in Charlotte I suppose.

Yeah, and if you read the right-wing blogs they claim all the violence comes from the left. I’m pretty certain I won’t read anything about Comet Ping Pong on those blogs.

Yes. It’s such a shock that they don’t include such info, isn’t it.

A strange thing happened. My go-to right-wing blog actually did write a post about this. It’s very possibly the most unorganized mish-mash of crapola I’ve ever seen on the blog.

It’s always interesting to see people reach conclusions based on what they have seen or heard. “I follow the news closely and I never heard of Pizzagate until this evening.” Maybe that says more about the sources he reads than the legitimacy of the story.

Can’t look at that now, I’ll have nightmares!

One of the interesting things about the post on PowerLine is that the writer claims that the Comet Ping Pong shooter was deranged, a nut and a paranoid schizophrenic, without citing any source for those claims. Of course, that’s what they always do when a shooter is aligned with the right — while any shooter aligned with “the left” represents all of the left. While the mainstream media reports are that he was a devoted father with sole custody of his children.
And here’s Snopes take on the whole “conspiracy” … http://www.snopes.com/pizzagate-conspiracy/
Having spent time in the right-wing blogosphere over the last couple of years, the Snopes description is a perfect example of the fake news generated by the right-wing fever swamp.

The story about Comet Ping Pong reminded me I need to get back down there. I love that place.

I’ve never been. I’ll have to try it.
I wasn’t sure if you meant the Comet Ping Pong or DC, though.

Comet Ping Pong, but I also like DC in general.

People in the neighborhood are also planning to visit the pizza place and show support. I have friends who live around there.

That’s terrific. It’s a great area. Imagine being put out of business because a faux news story!

I know. It’s insane. And still people don’t care that they are posting false stories.

My husband and I were wondering what the outcome would have been if the gunman wasn’t white. Do you think he could have fired shots in a pizza parlor and come out alive, or at least unharmed? Something tells me that this won’t be an isolated occurrence now that the lunatics are set to fully take over the government.

I’m furious about the lies spread about Hillary and the pizza restaurant and absolutely appalled that anyone intelligent would believe them. As to the rainbow flags hung in Pence’s neighborhood: BRAVO! We must protest in every way we can and as often as we can.

No one with any intelligence does believe them.

I love the flags. Given how the right wraps themselves up in the US flag, this seems to be the perfect response.

PS: Keeping Nancy Pilosi in position is a tactical mistake. Have the Democrats learned nothing?

Well, except that she is incredibly effective. Why do you think the GOP hates her so much?

That’s a funny barometer to measure her success. What the GOP thinks of her. If you measure it by whether or not she was able to sell a progressive ideology to the masses, she’s a catastrophic failure. New blood would’ve been the appropriate course of action.

Pence made a wise decision, choosing that neighborhood. He’s avoiding the gun-toting nuts who are inspired by the nuts who work for his boss. I’m sure he feels much safer around rainbow-colored flags.

He’s only in that neighborhood until the Inauguration when he’ll move into the VP’s house. Oh that will be such a sad day.

There will be no sleeping. We will all stay awake, suffer together. Who helped to spread this one? Oh, yeah that would be one of Trumps new Cabinet picks.
