People My Age

It happens every year, try as I might to avoid it.  Annually.  At about the same time each year.  On the same damn day, even.

Every bloomin’ year! What’s with that?

For the last 15 years, I’ve tried to avoid it.  I just put my head down and muddled through the whole month.  Looked forward to February.

Yeah, it’s my birthday.   Ho hum.  Everybody has one.  Still, I figure I need to do something to mark it.

So to celebrate, I’m going to insert one of my very favorite birthday songs for those of us who are in their our post- years.  The perfect song for the post-teens; post-Yuppies; post-childbearing, child rearing, post-careerists; post-menopausal; for the pre- and post-retirement set.

The perfect song for the pre-dead among us.  And I do hope you, my dear bloggin’ buddy, are among us.

Ho hum.  Where’s the wine?

  1. Happy Belated Birthday Elyse! If you were keeping your title current – what would you title be now? I can’t believe I will be 60 in December! Loved that video – I watched it myself & then played it again for my hubby!

  2. Happy (belated) birthday, ol’ gal! 🙂 I never quite get people who are excited about their every birthday. I don’t mind the aging thing — its not like I can choose to not age. I’m at a point where birthdays are just “meh”. This year, my birthday falls on Super Bowl day — people can celebrate that instead. Next year is the big 5-0. Milestones are worth a bit of note, but still, I don’t really care if someone remembers or not.

  6. Happy Birthday and my you have many more. Move them around and celebrate at different times of the year…it makes it more exciting that way, and you’ll get more free desserts, too.

    • I’ve been trying to convince my family to celebrate my half birthday instead. But Nooooooo. Last month, my niece called me and said that her daughter, with a mid-December birthday was going to have her b-day party in June …

  12. Ah, the mystery has finally been solved. It’s no surprise the world is sitting up and taking notice. The stars in the sky dance a little bit brighter, and the sun can’t help but smile. Even the wind sings a happy song. On this day, oh-so-long-ago, came into this world, the wonderment that is YOU.

Happy Birthday to you, and may you remain undead for a few more minutes, or at least until the cows come home, or until the world as we know it explodes with happiness because humans have learned how to be kind to one another, for all of eternity. Sending Happy Birthday hugs.

    Happy 54 1/2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 Birthday, Elyse!

    • Ummmm, thanks? I was hoping to last until way past when the cows come home because my home is a cow-free zone. Or maybe that means I will never die. You have me baffled!

But thanks for the wishes. And i think I didn’t respond to your comment on my last post. Oh no!!!!

      • Sorry for the lapse in sanity … in my world, “until the cows come home” is a euphemism for “forever”, even though, obviously, it has a whole ‘nuther connotation for most folks. One of those “family sayings” that doesn’t exactly make sense, but has become part of my vocabulary. I assure you, I meant well.

Because, you know, I kind of like you. 🙂

what is that eerie sound i hear ?
is something scary drawing near ?

do banshees shrill in glee prepare
to rend the night and split the air ?

do ocher dark the skies become
and pulse with marching thunder’s drum ?

do muscles strain and nails scrape
as you try in vain to gain escape ?

at last arrives the day you dread
    the caterwauling fills your head

    that happy little birthday tune
that comes for you each year too soon
