Like many of you, I still wake in the night with a knot in my stomach. It’s Donald Trump, of course. He’s making me sick. He’s making me anxious. He’s making me unusually serious.
But of course, we are all here in this country — although I think all of us want to pack our bags and leave a country that just elected such a seriously flawed man. A man who cheats, and lies and treats all non-white men as if they are less than human.
This video has helped me. It reminded me that I’m part of the loyal opposition — loyal to the system of government as it should act under the Constitution. That I’m an American and I value my institutions and I will fight against tyranny. That I am descended from immigrants who helped build our country.
That I have to be part of the solution. Whatever that may be.
Oh and that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by over 2 million votes, at last count.

It’s like all the fun has been sucked out of life, isn’t it? I fear the TV. I have been watching nothing but crap all week, because I know that even a glimpse of anyone in the grifter family or their supporters will turn me into an irrational crazy woman. There’s so much other stuff going on right now in my personal life that I can’t put another layer of shit on top of it all. But that will have to wait another day. It’s 3 in the morning, the dog is licking the damned blanket on my bed, and there is a humming bucket of fish on my dining room table (the bucket is humming, not the fish). I’m going to sleep.

Don’t worry, Steve Bannon will keep him in check… oh boy, it only gets worse, doesn’t it? Rudy Giuliani and Chris Christie or whatever his name is. Shining stars, aren’t they? I figure this is the last gasp of the staunchly-stupid… this can’t be a trend, but an aberration, and if it is an aberration, things have to right-size themselves eventually. Four years is maybe enough time to teach people a lesson but not to destroy the country, right?

There’s actually a word for all of this. I’m going to do a brief post about it. “Kakistocracy” — defined as “Government by the least qualified or worst persons.” It was my word of the day. First fucking thing on Monday.

I spoke to a Trump supporter this morning, and I failed to restrain my rage. Or didn’t manage to restrain it enough. And that is of course why we lost. We think, rightly, that folks who voted for him are ignorant. It is hard to accept that someone who hasn’t got a fucking clue can stick me with this racist, sexist bag of wind.

True. but the trouble was BEFORE the election, few of us really tried to convince the other side. We just thought they were stupid and ignorant. The fact that we were/are right doesn’t help change peoples’ minds.

I think in this case that peoples’ minds were made up no matter what. I doubt there is anything you could have done. Something ugly has reared its head, and it’s like a big contiguous monster more than anything else.

Mostly you’re right. But there are/were enough of his voters that needed to be educated as to the threat. People who believed he would change his mind/position if he won. It’s too late now, but they are learning. At least to the extent that they are paying attention.😔

This man sexually assaults women. That alone should give us an idea of the tenor his administration will assume. It will brutal. It will take advantage of the vulnerable. And it will employ the philosophy of might equals right. And many Americans will love it. The question is, how many?

I always thought he has a chance, and he can still win the reelection. However, he just ran against the Washington establishment, and promised bringing the jobs back from Mexico and China. In 2020, he’ll be the ultimate Washington insider and those jobs are not coming back. So those people are still going to be angry at Washington, and guess who they see as the guy running the things there in 2020?
Of course, Trump will still have his deplorables and hardcore Republicans,

Good points. I’m wondering what’s going to happen to his popularity after his first six months when there is still no wall paid for by Mexico, when we still have Obamacare or no health care at all, and when a number of his other things he’s promised to magically do right away don’t materialize. There may be a reckoning, even for someone as teflon as him.

Only if his novelty wears off and he isn’t the focus of every news story for the next four years. I do recall the Bush years, how there was so much, so very many things to be outraged about, that there was significantly less outrage expressed than there should have been. I fear the next four years will be deja vu all over again.

Oh yeah, I guess Trump could start a war and then claim that because he started it, he knows best how to finish it.
He has to be careful not to start a nuclear war with Russia or China, or there might not be an election in 2020.

Funny thing is, I just got back from visiting some friends and their new puppy. The speech seems like a synthesis of exactly what we were saying. We have a lot of work to do just paying attention to what he/they do in the next four years.

I’m thinking about a fiction. This piece would open like a documentary on Trump’s methods that enabled him to win BUT, would shift to a story-line about a rouge political movement from the future that time-traveled back to manipulate the election (think Back_to_the_Future.) As I don’t have the energy to write this I offer it to the community.
