A friend of mine sent this petition on to me. I’m not really one for petitions. I agree with research I’ve read that says that signing petitions makes people believe they are actually doing something. And well, hollow gestures are, hollow.
Still, what the hell. I signed this petition, and thought I’d forward it to you. Remember what is at stake.

Electoral College: Make Hillary Clinton President on December 19
On December 19, the Electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots. If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win. However, they can vote for Hillary Clinton if they choose. Even in states where that is not allowed, their vote would still be counted, they would simply pay a small fine – which we can be sure Clinton supporters will be glad to pay!
We are calling on the Electors to ignore their states’ votes and cast their ballots for Secretary Clinton. Why?
Mr. Trump is unfit to serve. His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the Republic.
Secretary Clinton WON THE POPULAR VOTE and should be President.
Hillary won the popular vote. The only reason Trump “won” is because of the Electoral College.
But the Electoral College can actually give the White House to either candidate. So why not use this most undemocratic of our institutions to ensure a democratic result?
SHE WON THE POPULAR VOTE.
There is no reason Trump should be President.
“It’s the ‘People’s Will'”
No. She won the popular vote.
“Our system of government under our Constitution says he wins”
No. Our Constitution says the Electors choose.
“Too many states prohibit ‘Faithless Electors'”
24 states bind electors. If electors vote against their party, they usually pay a fine. And people get mad. But they can vote however they want and there is no legal means to stop them in most states.
And since hell is obviously freezing over, it’s worth a shot.

Like The Incurable Dreamer, I am also Canadian. I agree that people need to speak out for what they believe in, and let their voices be heard, even if it is only a ‘snowball’s chance’.

There is apparently a village in the west of Ireland called “Connelly”! My mother’s people never spoke of the old country, though. I’ve always joked that they were axe murderers. So if you want to be related to axe murderers, we’re glad to have ye!

I am from Canada, but I share your shock and anxiety. I beg of you…PLEASE don’t give up!! Sign the petition and do everything you can to send this clown back to the hell he came from; the world is counting on it. Good luck to you all! x

Nope. I voted for Clinton, but I think the idea of Electoral College is fucked up enough already. No need to complicate things by allowing electors who supposedly represent the will of people to make up their own votes.

This compact is already up to 60% of the way there. If all the remaining blue states and a few swing states ratify it, it will end the Electoral college even if not a single red state joins in.

Going forward, it would be nice. Maybe it will happen, but like nate Silver, I doubt it. But it won’t happen for this election. And frankly, who knows what our country will look like in 4 years.

It’s not going to happen. That’s the sad reality. I think time and effort would be better spent distributing a petition to demand the end of the electoral college. It’s antiquated and undemocratic. Every vote should be equal. Everyone’s opportunity to vote should be equal as well. There are a lot of factors that came together for the infant-in-chief-elect. There was Comey (who should burn in Hell), voter suppression, the free media the stale hairy Cheez Doodle was given and Russia’s finger on the scale, just to mention a few. I don’t want to walk around with a tinfoil hat on, but I am not sure if I trust the results of this election. It would be difficult to skew the number of votes for each candidate over the entire country, but it would not be very difficult to skew a few numbers where needed to change the result of the electoral college. A little subtle computer hacking would do it, as well as temperamental electors. There were 2 in Washington state who said that they would not cast their votes for Hillary, even though that was the will of the people. The future of our country shouldn’t rest on the shoulders of a few people who decide that their judgment is better than that of the voters.
In the meantime, I have been researching real estate in Canada and some Central American countries. I wish I was kidding.

OMG – I just read this in the Wall Street Journal: “Asked whether he thought his rhetoric had gone too far in the campaign, the president-elect responded: ‘No. I won.'” What message does that send to our children? It’s OK to say whatever you want as long as you win?

It can’t hurt; I’m in, though like you, I won’t hold my breath. I read a blog post by Anna Beguins (https://annabeguins.com/2016/11/10/mood-indigo/) where she mentioned she’d donated to Planned Parenthood because she felt that was at least something she could do, and that likely the organization is going to need it. I think that’s a great idea and plan to do it myself.

Yes, Comey did cost her the election and Trump’s team knew about it beforehand. Isn’t that a Felony or something? But now that the Reptilians (intended) are ruling he’ll be rewarded as a hero.

I remember that after Gore lost in 2000, while winning the popular vote, the freshman senator from New York, Hillary Clinton, called for a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College. She was roundly criticized for such naivete, and she dropped the matter. Maybe she should have stuck to her guns.

So, if Clinton would have won the Electoral College but lost the overall vote, would a petition still be applicable? Would you sign it? …. After all, I wouldn’t sign in either situation.
