You may not have heard the news that has the media all a flutter this morning. Donald Trump yesterday banned all reporters from the Washington Post from admission to, and therefore coverage of, all of his events.
How about if all media — newspapers, TV, online — voluntarily stop covering all of his events.
Everyone. Just. Stop. Mentioning. Him.
Because then there would be a meltdown that we could all enjoy.
He is such an ignoranus. Truly, he is ignorant and an asshole, all at once.
Like so many others, I wish there were a complete media blackout on this fool. But there won’t be, not so long as he brings in the ratings. Woe unto all of us. Worse? There are many out there who will vote for him, they won’t admit it, not now, but they will vote for him.
Yup, the best way to make sure the first season of a bad TV show doesn’t get a chance for a return to the next season is for low ratings. Well, his approval ratings are in the crapper, but lots of people love to watch a stinker be stinky (do see how I’m keeping my language clean even though I’m talking dirty?). So no media coverage would be his Kryptonite, right? Only he’s not Superman, he’s Stinkerman.
I hope you have a strong stomach. He can be sickening in a short amount of time. All I can do is shake my head in amazement at all his followers. Oh, I should change the subject or we’ll have nightmares. Last word. I love it when he gets into it with reporters. If he makes them all hate him, surely his coverage will start showing the worst or not at all. Goodnight.
The best answer to people like Trump is not hate, but indifference. Because it takes away they one thing he craves–attention! You are onto something, Elyse, and I wish all the media would follow suit. They CAN ignore things… heck, I’ve seen them do it to Bernie Sanders a million times. I have no idea what Trump’s supporters see in him, nothing but a bigoted bully hiding behind a big bank account. There is none so blind as he who will not see. 🙂
Maybe the key to what folks see in DT is that they’re being asked to be on the side of the bully rather than the brunt of the bully. That’s the only thing I have been able to guess at.
That and they’re now allowed to hate openly. Yeah. That’s probably it.
If there are any aliens watching this – it would be a good time for you to beam Trump up and take him to another galaxy for study. It’s OK, we won’t complain to the Time Lords. Honest!
Indeed, Elyse, who would have thought a modern demagogue could flourish with nothing more than juvenile taunts, boasts, innuendo and incomplete sentences? Certainly not I. But it is happening. It is enabled by confirmation bias and based on the ugly side of human nature. I see this as a serious test of whether a free and tolerant society can actually persist.
I wonder if Orwell’s 1984 is still being taught in the literature courses?
In 2004, my route home passed the entrance to the Key Bridge to DC from Rosslyn, VA. There was a sign post there that was always covered in graffitti. One day shortly before the 2004 election, I noticed somebody had painted “Read Orwell” on it. A few days later, a republican, no doubt had changed it to “Read well.” That summed up for me the level of discourse. And it was 12 years ago!
I like it here and I won’t give in to some bully with weird hair. I’m going to root for the transporter malfunction that spreads his molecules into the galaxy.
Funny that you should say that. We missed the Post when we were overseas something fierce. But it became very right wing during the Bush years so we cancelled it. I recently got an online subscription because I was tired of not knowing what is happening in town. Obviously I knew they were shaping up!
It’s not going to work, unfortunately, because only the media that is critical of him would be silent, and the media that loves him isn’t going to shut up. Can you imagine that – every article and every news report mentioning Trump is a glowing and supportive story? Because that’s exactly what Donald Trump wants! 🙂

Yeah. Maybe he’s like Sampson, though. And all we need to do is cut his hair. That would be swim-win!

My stomach is quite strong. It’s the rest of my GI tract that isn’t 💩
The press has been such a disappointment. If he weren’t who he is, I’d be rooting for him. But he is who he is. Sigh.

Isn’t it? The only thing more astonishing is that folks are swallowing it, hook, line and sinker. Makes me want to puke.

Perhaps there could be a transporter malfunction on the way up so that his molecules would be distributed into space with. NO CHANCE FOR RETURN!

What happened to freedom of speech? Here’s the thing. Why doesn’t everyone see how scary this is? I know…speaking to the choir and all that.

True, we’re both in the choir. But it beats us talking to ourselves, doesn’t it?
