I know — me too. I remember fondly when we all just laughed at Trump because, really, what are the chances he’ll be the nominee? And now that he will likely be the nominee, people are still underestimating him. Scary scary scary.
I recently had a brief exchange about politics with an acquaintance at the YMCA, he being very conservative. Also religious, because his workout tee announces it. We are both aware of our respective political leanings because he reads my occasional letter to the editor. He asked me how I was tending so far and I told him Hillary, because I didn’t think Bernie was electable. How about you? I asked. Trump. Trump all the way!
I was somewhat taken aback, thinking that The Donald ought not appeal to the religious right so much, what with his foul language, personal attacks, three marriages, arrogance, and adherence to the rules of greed. Wrong.
In a brief follow-up he made clear that immigration was the driving factor in his choice. Illegal immigrants and migrants are taking our jobs, he said. When I suggested that Americans might not be interested in menial jobs like field work and chicken processing, he said “Then let ’em starve. They need to learn to come up the hard way like you and I did!”
It’s looking like he just might get his wish. Ouch. What I see on the horizan in Trump Wurld is nothing less than isolationism (thus, how Mexico pays for the Wall). When global jobs come back to Amerika, the landscape is likely to start looking like Cuber. OMG.
I heard him say it the first time and couldn’t believe it. Next time he will tell us the ho’s and crackheads love him. Next week is another week of wonder.
like when you’re a kid and you do something — like swear, or bully — and you get away with it but know you shouldn’t. The whole country is doing that now.
It is dangerous to be loved by Trump. He loves Mexicans and Muslims too. I think those of us without a college edukation should start looking at overseas real estate.
I’m trying to put all in context of the statements leading up to your suggestion.
Meanwhile, it’s easy … In terms of President, I’ve voted for Reagan once, but not twice … I voted for Clinton once, but not twice … I voted for Obama once, but not twice … I’ve also left the presidential ballot blank …. and all this is off the topic of my head.
But it doesn’t seem to matter! He just gets stronger. It is mind-boggling. Worse, people are following his lead and acting like bullies more than ever. Because he’s made it OK. Disgusting.
Here’s what a friend said of me regarding Nov ’16 … the main question is will Frank make a selection while holding his nose or will he say the hell with both of them.
But look where they are taking us as they tear themselves apart. It’s ok to be a bully and a bigot and to not care about anybody but yourself. Disgusting. Deeply disturbing.
One correction … I don’t think I voted for GW either time.
On March 15th, I will go to the polls to cast an issues-only ballot. In my state, the primary is open to all with one stipulation – the voter declares the ballot they want and that defines them as a registered whatever until the next primary .. .and that is something I don’t want to do.
ahhh lol!! Hadn’t seen this, thanks for sharing!!

I couldn’t believe it either. What a tool! It’s as if we have all been sent to the Twilight Zone.

Great clip, Elyse. Each day I get a little more scared. And horrified.

I read your comment on my phone and then didn’t answer it. How rude of me. (Perhaps I am Trump material after all?)
I was laughing at the idea of Trump at the beginning. How the hell did we get to where we have to fear him instead of laugh at him???

And what a horrible example for kids. It’s like we’re telling them it’s okay to be a bully after all.

Yes! a retired teacher-blogger wrote about that just the other day. She said she’s glad she’s not teaching anymore because how could she possibly explain Trump. https://momshieb.wordpress.com/2016/02/24/why-trump-makes-me-happy/

It’s tiresome enough to be told that Jesus loves me. Now I keep hearing that Trump loves me. I guess I need to get an edukation.

I want to believe that we as Americans are not stupid. But I keep getting proven wrong. Laughing this much hurts — and not in a good way!

So your average is 50-50. I am no longer comforted by your assurances that Trump won’t become president.
