This Sums it Up Nicely — NSFW

As I often do, I’m snagging something else from my bloggin’ buddy, Father Kane over at The Last of the Millenniums.  Because, really, I haven’t seen such a good summary of why folks have guns in a while (Not Safe For Work).

I give you Australian comedian Jim Jefferies:

  1. Dead on, personally I just have nothing left. I am a ball of fury on this subject.

  3. Very good. This reminds me of the other argument for wanting to own an arsenal, i.e., to defend one’s self and family when civilization collapses. You know, as in the Walking Dead or in 2008 when Obama took over and schemed to take everyone’s guns away and turn us into Communists. It’s fine if you want to buy a couple years’ worth of canned goods, dried vittles and a bunker to store them in. I actually used to see ads for such supplies – I wonder how long such people lasted down there before they gave it up? Imagine two years on a diet of Slim Jim’s and watery oatmeal. Aargh.

    • I actually packed some emergency supplies years ago when the whole area was crippled by a hurricane. I’m not sure what I was thinking with all those beans ….

Funny stuff, and good points. I have a post planned for tomorrow or whenever I wake up from my nap, covering this subject.

  8. Isn’t this great? I just watched it yesterday on another blog. I love when he’s warning the intruder of how much trouble he’s going to be in as he’s getting his gun out of the cabinet. That being said, I’m a firm believer guns need to be locked up with kids in the house. But the comedian shows the absurdities well.

    • A friend of mine who is very 2nd Amendment-ie used the “home invader” argument on me (on this blog a long time ago). She has two kids. I used the same line about telling the “invader” to hold on a minute while I open the safe, get my gun, put the bullets in it and shoot you … It actually convinced her.

      • Good work. Guns in the same home as children always makes me nervous. There are too many stories of kids shooting themselves or their siblings by accident, after stumbling upon a gun.

        • I know! When I was really little, I got mad at my neighbor and went inside to find my dad’s gun. Which fortunately didn’t exist.

          • Yikes.

There was a study that looked at how well children will avoid a gun if told never, ever to touch one. They gathered a group of children and gave them all the lecture about how dangerous guns are and to never touch one. Always get a grown-up. The children all nodded in serious agreement. Then they put the kids in a room where an unloaded gun was on the table. They watched the kids through a two-way mirror. At first the kids stayed away, but of course, curiosity got the best of them, and soon the majority were touching and holding it. We can tell our young children these safety things–and we should–but we can’t guarantee they’ll follow them.
