I know — it is just so funny. We had lunch today with an executive of a big company who was talking about his company’s efforts at voice recognition. He has an accent and we were discussing the challenges. As soon as we got home we forwarded him a link to this video!
I was sent this video last year from a friend in Scotland. Shame on me, I didn’t realize that was what Scottish accents really sounded like, I was expecting Groundskeeper Willie from The Simpsons’ type instead.
For what it’s worth, I told Scottish friend that and they laughed. They also tolerate my “So I Married an Ax Murderer” quotes whenever we talk online. 😀
You married one? I am descended from ax murderers! At least that’s what I decided based on the fact that none of my ancestors would talk about “the home country.” What were they hiding if not their Lizzie Borden past?
Very funny clip! I sometimes feel like that when I’m trying to get help with something via my phone and the service’s voice activation doesn’t recognize what I say. Grrr.
I work for an international company and was thinking of posting it on my company’s intranet as an example of cultural insensitivity, but it would have to be rated G.
I laughed & laughed! I am of Scottish descent & I could never understand a word my grandfather said.

My husband went to university there. He and now we have many Scottish friends. There are a couple of them that I simply cannot understand!

This one cracks me up every time. Who doesn’t need a good laugh at the expense of our Scottish kin?

Very funny. It reminds me of how I much I curse, rant, and holler when talking to voice-automated phone systems.

You gotta love a Scot. Or being English, YOU don’t have to.
Did you know it’s still legal in the town of York, to shoot a Scot with a bow and arrow?

Aim carefully. But check the law first. If I remember correctly (from 15 years ago) the Scot must be within the city walls.
