Have you heard the exciting news? Representative Louis Gohmert ((R-Where Else But F’ing Texas) is challenging Rep. John Boehner for Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“Why?” you ask, “Elyse, you are a liberal Democrat. Why do you want such a stupid, ignorant Neanderthal Teapartier [OK, so I repeat myself] to be Speaker of the House? What better way to prove to ‘Merica that the GOP’s aims are stupid and harmful than having them served up to us on the TEEVEE by Gomer-Fuckin’-Pyle?
In case you’re unfamiliar with him, Gohmert is widely considered to be one of, if not THE dumbest member of either party in either House. Here is a compendium of his, ummm, opinions:
Every time this man appears in front of the camera, he shows himself to be an idiot. So what better mouthpiece for the GOP?
I give Louie my unqualified support. You can too! Just go to House.Gov and contact your own representative. Ask him/her to vote for Louie!
You have one of those too?

Elyse, thanks for a good laugh this evening. I took a few minutes out from my evening to watch the video. What an “ijit” as Valentine put it. Seriously, it is extremely frightening that these kinds are “governing” citizens in the U.S., and claiming they have their constituents at heart. Good post!

It is terrifying in a warped but funny way. Oy! Happy new year!

I don’t think showing the stupidity front and center will work. It hasn’t so far. (Which is a head-banging experience)

I’m on it. I just fired off an email to my own odious Republican congressman. Go Gohmert!

Yes!!! Sadly even with our letters (mine still goes to the old retired Congressman instead of the new bat-shit crazy one my district elected in Nov.) Gohmert will lose. It’s a dream …

I do worry how many believe everything he says. *shudder*
Of course, I had the same concern about Boehner too. At least with this one, I won’t have to worry about the color calibration on my TV set.

I think with the way so many Americans are willfully embracing ignorance, I think those numbers are growing, sadly.
But I think you’re still going to have to worry about that orange tint to the news, as I don’t think Boehner’s going down!

If he wins, he’ll be able to cement his role as top banana.

And we, as Americans, would collectively be stuck slipping on the peel.

It’s all so hard to believe that this passes for leadership anywhere, let alone in institutions that the country and world count on for more.

Yeah. It’s terrifying, actually. But they do manage to make it appear that they are reasonable folks, when in fact they are snakes.

All I can think to ask is; did Boner… sorry… Boehner… cry when he heard the news?

He won’t even come close. After all, the GOP won’t want the alternative.

You’re right, of course, Frank. Still, I would love it if the GOP could stop hiding behind a pretense of reasonable ness. Louie would make sure of that!

Precisely why he won’t … but I agree as any opposing tactic would be to “Keep him talking”.

Elyse, I am a third generation Texan and have been back here for nearly 40 years (perhaps more) with only a short respite here and there. Yet, I bash the government here as if it were a religion.

This one is highly unlikely to happen. But the Tea Partiers are behind him 100% — showing that they are as big morons as he is. I just read that he will likely only get about 30 votes. But they are putting Boehner “on notice” that they disagree with his “conciliatory tactics.” Yeah, right.

Happy New Year, Elyse. Every time I hear nonsense like this and catch myself laughing out of disbelief (cuz it sure ain’t funny) I worry. To hear applause after his “speeches” terrifies me because they believe every word. Shudder.

I don’t actually know — he’s been in Congress a while — since 2004 from a very republican district. I don’t know how folks can keep electing morons like him — there really should be IQ tests for folks seeking elected office …

It just gets zanier all the time with the Grand Old Party. Such a shame Louie hasn’t got a chance. His election would greatly accelerate the death spiral.

Well, yeah! But I’m thinking that it would show the stupidity front and center. This Congress won’t get much done anyway, because they will spend the whole time trying to repeal and/or undermine everything Obama has done in the previous 6. And he will (and should) veto.
But it’s not really going to happen. I am dreaming!

We’ll have to agree to disagree. Frankly, I think ALL the politicians on BOTH sides of the house are self-seeking wastes of air. I am completely unimpressed by Obama, disgusted with the Republicans, fed up with the Democrats, and bewildered by all the millions of American citizens who seem satisfied with the idea that this is as good as it gets.

We can absolutely agree on agreeing to disagree. But i do think that while the dems are disappointing, their general philosophy is correct — to work together to use government to solve common problems. The GOP, in my mind is concerned with gettinf and holding power and destroying government. Like it or not, there are problems that can only be solved by gov’t — roads, bridges, schools. The list is long.

See, now, I’m not really sure that I buy this. Yes, some things are better handled by a central organization that is accountable to the body politic … but when last did any American politician (same applies to most other countries too, I imagine) ever take the concept of accountability seriously? It’s all a boatload of promises – “Real Change”, “Yes We Can”, blah blah blah – and then they spend at least half their time in office out on the campaign trail. Roads, bridges, schools – funny that you would pick three with POTENTIALLY quite workable private sector solutions. Most of the big stuff they’ve tackled, they’ve bollixed royally. Social Security? Oh what a lovely slush fund! Obamacare? Yes, don’t worry, you can trust us, we’ll get around to reading it after it’s implemented.
So no, I’m not buying the Democrat philosophy, because I don’t think they walk the talk. It’s all feel-good words. Based on their performance, they’re incompetent, sloppy and dishonest, and up for sale to the highest bidder. As for the GOP … isn’t their core philosophy smaller government? Sounds great to me, if only they would follow through!
