Jen of Sips of Jen and Tonic did a fun post last month. She listed 6 things about herself — five were true and one was a lie. And she challenged others to do the same. So here I am. I’m ready. I think.
Which one is the lie?
- I once lobbied for the Koch brothers.
- When I met him many years ago, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, the first black Supreme Court Justice, told a story about how he was once mistaken for the elevator operator by tourists in the Supreme Court building, and how he pretended he was the elevator operator.
- I developed my interest in politics when I took a college course on the Kennedys only because I knew the professor would give me an “A.”
- I attended an anti-war protest and had a front row seat for Peter, Paul and Mary.
- My mother contracted polio when she was pregnant with me.
- I grew up in a house that the whole neighborhood thought was haunted.
My hairdresser knows, do you?
Put your guess into the comments.

My guess: the lobbying for the Koch Brothers … though, even that seems plausible, because of your work (not your politics).

For the record I threw up a little when I read the words “lobbied for the Koch brothers”, but I do believe it could have happened when you were young and filled with vigor.
My guess is your mother having Polio when pregnant with you.

And I’m not vigorous now? I’m not the one who is throwing up at this time of the morning, Tops!

Perhaps “vigor” was not the right word….young, hopeful and naive might have been better choices. Are you vigorous today? For the love of god woman your badass.

Not being from the US, I don’t know enough about several of those to even guess, but I now know who the Koch brothers are (thank you Wikipedia). 🙂 I’m curious to find out what the answer is though.

Are you guessing the Koch brothers one is the lie?
I have to go check out your blog now — I’m a big Potter fan!

Ha ha! I had to come back again to work out the Potter connection… I’d forgotten what my name was! The Hedwigia name was more to do with my fascination with mosses and other plants than with owls, though admittedly the Potter link was why I chose that particular moss name.
As for your lie… I give up, it’s all too American for me to understand. 😀

I think I’m getting upset that nobody is guessing the haunted house. Hasn’t anybody seen any scary movies? I knew LINDA BLAIR! (Well, actually, I met her and worked with her sister, Lisa. But I forgot that. That would have been a good one to add.)

I don’t know Elyse, given some of the stories you have told the haunted house story simply seems plausible.

hmmmm…I seem to remember you blogged or commented about your “haunted house.” I just don’t know. But I’m guessing an Elyse “exposed” answer may just make lobbying for the Koch bros. the answer.

It’s gotta be the Koch brothers. Although I guess it’s possible that it was a long time ago, you’d never heard of them, and they funded some charity that was completely separate from their political stuff. So maybe it was the one about your mom having polio. But would you make something like that up? I think I’m going to stick with Koch brothers. I mean, not the actual Koch brothers, just my guess that you’re lying about lobbying for them.
(On the other hand, I’m pretty sure the Thurgood Marshall and haunted house stories are true. And the Peter Paul and Mary item isn’t outlandish enough to be a lie).

I can’t believe that you ever lobbied for the Koch Brothers, but maybe this is a trick question. The one statement that seems to be in a different category and more subjective is the last one about the haunted house. Maybe everyone but you thought the house was haunted? When do we find out?
