Today is a good day to remember this sentiment.
Let us not be afraid to help each other—let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and Senators and Congressmen and Government officials but the voters of this country.
Great reminder. Thanks.

Yep … and the voters are quite the fickle bunch … after all, Congress is horrible, but I’ll re-elect mine!

I’m hopeful that that won’t happen this time, actually. And the ones I REALLY want to go down are the ones, like my congressman, Frank Wolf, who publicly said he was against the shutdown, but voted with his party the entire time. I hope that there is a lot of money put into exposing the hypocrisy.
But then, I’m an optimist …

I HAVE been busy! Thanks for the nudge. I read and commented. Should you go back there (or come to DC) let me know. You never know when I’ll be in either place!

It’s been some time since I’ve been to DC … early to mid 90s. But, I shall remember you if I travel that way again.

Isn’t it? Perhaps the good thing that will come of the shutdown is that folks will remember why it is we have government in the first place.
