The Perfect Table

It is a bit early to be offering decorating tips for the holidays.  It’s summer, and really, who wants to think of just the right plates for serving up those picture perfect holiday meals?  But unfortunately, I really need a new set of dishes.  I just broke another one this morning in the set I bought nearly 20 years ago.  So naturally, I went to the interwebs.

I learned two valuable lessons in the process today.  And of course, I had to share:

  1. Scout out the dog’s location when carrying your breakfast plate to the table.
  2. Never shop for dishes just after you realize that your pants are too tight.

Because if you do, you, like me, will end up buying these:

I’m pretty sure these dishes are just the thing to lighten up those holiday grocery bills.  I wonder if they have matching wine glasses.

  2. If those are the small plates, I think they’re specifically designed for the brains appetizer for a zombie dinner.

  3. I love these. My sister has a serious thing about skulls and day of the dead masks, such a good gift idea!

  4. You can always give them as gifts once you get your new set of dishes. Though, I’d do so anonymously.

  5. And I notice that they are small–that’s good. Most plates are platter sized and we fill them up and feel guilty if we don’t finish everything on the plate. 😉

  10. Tattoo Dinnerware? I inherited a huge set of plates from my grandmother – none of them match. They are single pieces of china and dinnerware collected over the years from family and friends – they used to hang in her living room along the walls. I’ve been thinking about using them for special occasions – all mismatched.

  13. I think you were wise not to buy those dishes. I have a feeling that breaking one of those might be bad luck.

    • That’s exactly what I thought! I threw this post up in about 10 minutes yesterday and it has zillions of views. (Well, maybe not quite zillions — but dozens anyway). Other times I pour out my soul and nobody has much to say!

      Curious!

Yeah, not that it’s not a GREAT post because I LOVE those dishes ;), but it does make me a little crazy how some of the most profound stuff gets the least “traffic.” That said, maybe there is something really profound in those dishes. I’ll think on it . . . .

I like them! Nothing says holiday cheer like skulls. Skulls are still so in – it’s amazing the life they have as a trend. Imagine getting to the bottom of a slice of cheesecake and seeing that image. It might work for me and my diet!

    • I would think that for them to be truly useful diet aids, you’d need to use them while serving a buffet. Then, I’m pretty sure you’d have a run on carrot sticks!

  17. I hai hate being a klutz. Worse, I hate having animals who walk underneath you to heighten my inability to walk unlike that of a drunk.

I love the plates. Good for any and all occasions, especially Halloween in my house seeing as its our biggest holiday of the year!

    Happy blogging!

    • Hi Jen, welcome!

One of the reasons I have a dog is so I can blame things on him: trips, farts, the Iraq War. Cooper, my deaf, dumb, blind and ancient (15-1/2 years old) Springer spaniel has much to answer for. Me? I’m good.

And if you order those plates, mention my blog so that I will be rolling in dough!

  18. I don’t mind breaking a glass or a dish now and then because I would love to be able to buy more or new, but I have no cabinet space for more than one set. But those dishes you have pictured are just too creepy for me. They give me the chills. Although I have a friend who lives for Halloween. In fact, she likes Halloween better than Christmas (and she’s not Goth).

    • I think they are a little odd, too. But I guess if stores start stocking Christmas stuff in October, the have to put the Halloween stuff out in July. Or something.

These plates won’t be gracing my table, though! Or my cabinets either, cause like you, space is an issue for me.

Perfect for the winter barbecue I’m going to this afternoon – in an ironic post postmodern hipster way. Do they ship to Australia?

  26. Haha, I love those dishes! But I know I could never talk my husband into them. We recently had to buy new plates after my Target collection slowly broke its way into disappearance. I had to settle for boring, square white ones, because it was the only set the hubs and I could agree on. I suppose, given I’m the queen of the kitchen, I could have pulled rank, but my interest wasn’t high enough to put forth the effort…
