Nobody knows the notifications I see

They’re a tease.  There on my iPhone before I “Slide to Open.”  Responses to all the incredibly clever comments I’ve made since Friday.

But when I turn on the phone – I got nothin’.

When I turn on the computer – I got nothin’.

When I try to post this little piece to bitch at Word Press — I got nothin’

Word Press?  What the fuck are you doing?

I think this was happening because they changed the way comments display. Hopefully it’s working now (I’m not staff), but I’ve just started using the RSS feed for comments again – haven’t done that in ages, but am fed up of the glitches here. It’s an easy alternative (especially if you have Firefox as there’s an add on that you can put in your URL bar).

  3. Wow! It sounds like there are lots of problems going on. I have been caught up in my continuing move and hadn’t been on line so I thought the lack of communication was because of this. I will have to pay more attention. Thanks for the Louis.

Welcome back — hope you have some tales to tell about your move!

      • Well, the move isn’t complete yet. We moved our stuff from storage into our new place on Feb 28th in Pickering, ON. I spent one day unpacking and stayed overnight and then came back to Niagara Falls where I am to stay until March 18. Crazy! I will have quite the mess waiting to be sorted when I get back to Pickering. I’m insane.

            • Sadly, I don’t use it either. We’ve had movers, paid for by someone else for our 6 moves in the last 20 years. What that means is they pack up all our crap and it often remains, unused, in boxes until we discover it at the next new house.

The next one we will have to pay for ourselves. So I finally figure it out!

Good luck with it Michelle. It is such a huge pain …

  4. Well brace yourself, if you use FaceBook, they are updating and changing the way we communicate…yet again. This will happen sometime this week.

  5. I’ve noticed lately that even when I’m logged in, I have to log in again before I can leave a comment on another blog. And even on my own blog, I often have to log out then log back in when I want to reply to someone else’s comment. It’s been going on for several weeks. I wonder if anyone else is having this problem.

    • I have been having to log on more frequently, but not as frequently as you describe.

I hope they fix this. The commenting process is half the fun!

  6. I do not believe it is fixed as yet. But your sparkling wit, I just look for it.

  7. Every so often I start to regret moving my blog off wordpress.com. Thanks for making me feel better about it.

(I have mixed feelings. I’ve found it pretty easy to run my own wordpress.org site, but I miss some of the more “social” features of wp.com like “liking” and the potential for being Freshly Pressed).

    • It has been a pain — like when you have a party and nobody shows up!

But we miss you on wordpress — I often have trouble commenting on your posts. It makes me re-register each time and then kicks back comments frequently.

There are pros and cons of everything, I guess!

      • Oh — you mentioned that before, but I thought it just happened once or twice. Maybe I should consider coming back once this current set of problems is fixed. Or switching to another comment system. Blogging is so complicated.

        • It happens about 50% of the time, I’d say. You might want to post and ask if other folks are having the same problem.

And blogging is so complicated. And such a time sucker!

  8. I’m so out of it I didn’t realize the problem. Thanks for the heads up. Reading the comments, it seems WP obviously knows of the problem.

  9. I’ve had loads of problems this week. And odd things happening to my blog. My ‘recent comments’ widget went missing all by itself. I don’t get notifications. My reader isn’t working at all and hasn’t for weeks. My fave was one day my stats said I had nine visits and 50 views. Bizarre.

    • Moms above had the same mathematical challenge as you did, Darla. This is very strange — especially since it’s been going on for so very long. My reader holds blogs I don’t recall subscribing to — food ones that I never ever read. It is quite odd.

Melt down over at word press. Sad.

  10. I thought it was only me! I’m getting notifications, but then I can’t open them. I also see on my stats that I have 9 views, but 22 “likes”. I may not be a math genius, but this don’t make much sense to me!

    • Perhaps those folks just “liked” the post a whole lot? Perhaps the laws of mathematics have finally changed so that my bank book will add up?

      No? I thought not. Damn.

  11. Man, WP has been REALLY screwing up lately! Poor Rarasaur lost ALL her followers, and I’ve read several other people having posting problems. Man, I take a few weeks off for R&R, and the whole Internet goes to heck in a handbasket! 😉

  12. Is it fixed? I don’t think I’m getting notification of comments to my sparkling, witty comments.

  13. It’s a credit to WP that when I saw that problem last night, my first thought was “Oh, WP screwed up again”, as opposed to the usual “what’s wrong with my computer now?”
But they seem to have it sorted out this morning.

    • I’ve had lots of problems with WordPress today, including when I was trying to post this piece. It wouldn’t come up in the “Preview” bar, the title alone came up when I first posted it.

Perhaps I should have left out the F-bombs, too!
